POSTNATAL WELLBEING GROUPS

The period after childbirth can be overwhelming. Having a new baby comes with hormonal changes, psychological adjustment to motherhood, and fatigue.

The Postnatal Wellbeing Group is designed for mothers experiencing postnatal depression, anxiety or adjustment disorder, and:

  • Creates an opportunity for mothers to meet in a non-judgmental and supportive environment.

  • Enables mothers to share experiences, feel heard and provide support to others.

  • Allows mothers to develop and extend upon their social network.

  • Allows mothers to explore different ways of managing postnatal challenges with the assistance of a Clinical Psychologist.

The Postnatal Wellbeing Group program uses the Five Areas model of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), helping mothers to make key changes by examining five important aspects of their lives.

The Postnatal Wellbeing Group runs for ten weeks. Mothers participate in weekly 1½ hour sessions in a group of 6-10.

Those with an eligible Medicare referral will be able to claim a rebate. Patients being managed by their GP under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (GP Medicare item 2700, 2701, 2715 or 2717) are eligible to receive the Medicare rebate. These group services are separate from individual psychological services and do not count towards the maximum for those items. Talk to your GP for further information about the Mental Health Treatment Plan and a referral.

Those without a Medicare referral may be able to claim a rebate through private health insurance.

Total out-of-pocket cost for those with a Medicare referral is $140 ($14 per session) or $90 ($9 per session) for concession holders.

Total cost for those without a Medicare referral is $300 ($30 per session) or $150 ($15 per session) for concession holders. Private health rebates may apply.
